Kenai Peninsula Borough, AK Becomes MS Govern's Newest Customer on the Business Tax Suite
July 18, 2012

Kenai Peninsula Borough, AK and St. Louis, MO – July 18, 2012: Management Solutions for Government (MS Govern), a division of Harris Computer Systems, is pleased to announce that the Kenai Peninsula Borough has added the Govern Business Tax Suite to their MS Govern Software Suite.

“We are very excited to add yet another Alaska government agency to our growing list of customers utilizing our Business Tax Suite. The Govern Software will provide the Borough with an innovative, comprehensive Sales Tax Administration, Billing, Collection, and Audit system using state-of-the-art technology that integrates with other existing Borough systems. Collecting Sales Tax for municipalities within the Borough will be an easy process using the Govern Software. With its configurable capability, the Govern Software will be economically managed, enhanced, and further improved by in-house Borough staff. We look forward to assisting the Borough in its endeavors to provide better service to municipalities and businesses alike for many years to come,” says Richard Beaini, Vice President of Sales.

“The Kenai Peninsula Borough was looking for a system using a modern technology platform, designed to allow our users to easily pull out more meaningful information and to provide better productivity. The Borough was also looking for online capability to allow businesses the opportunity to complete sales tax registration and sales tax returns electronically. With the flexibility and capabilities of the Govern Software, we found the right solution to help us streamline and manage the Sales Tax process. The Govern Software offers us the ability to be independent of the vendor when making adjustments and changes to the configuration,” states Clyde Johnson, Jr., Kenai Peninsula Borough Sales Tax Accounting Supervisor and Project Manager.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough lies directly south of Anchorage, the State's principal population center. The waters of the Gulf of Alaska and Prince William Sound border the borough on the south and east with the dramatic Chigmit Mountains of the Alaska Range rimming the borough to the west. The Cook Inlet divides the borough into two land masses. The peninsula itself encompasses 99 percent of the borough's population and most of the development. The Kenai Mountains run north and south through the peninsula, contrasting to the lowlands lying to their west. The west side of the Inlet is sparsely inhabited, with the village of Tyonek being the largest populated settlement. The boundaries of the borough encompass a total of 25,600 square miles, of which 15,700 square miles are land. In comparison, the total land mass of the borough equals that of Massachusetts and New Jersey combined. However, the total borough population is less than 1/400th of that same area.

The Borough will begin the project immediately.
